Apparently there was a memo that went around. Within the last couple of days about 4 or 5 different people have kindly reminded me that I haven’t updated our blog in a while. The last post being over 2 months ago. Clearly, they all conspired on the same day and decided that enough was enough.
I’d like to try to see how long I can play the “new mom of a baby” card…however, Steve informs me that Jacob’s no longer a baby. He’s an “infant”. So I guess that means my days of slacking are over!
I’m not sure what this will be about…so…I’ll give you the highlights of what’s been going on. I’ll throw in some random pictures and videos in no particular order, and hopefully that’ll do you for a bit.
Our (growing) boy
At Jacob’s 4 month well-visit, he came in at the 10th percentile for his weight. At his 6 month well visit a week and a half ago, the nurse gave him a DOWN ARROW ↓. Obviously that wasn’t good. So, in order to make sure he got back on the charts, doc wanted us to come back in a week to reweigh. After a week of formula and oatmeal, Jacob gained 10 ounces! Doc was shooting for 7oz, so when we came back with 10, he was VERY happy. And so is Jacob.
According to the doctor, I most likely had “low calorie milk” – Steve will probably blame it on the fact that I always drink skim milk myself – but Jacob wasn’t getting the amount of calories needed for the amount he was growing. He’s now around 26 inches long! Couple that with being just under 13.5 lbs, and you’ve got one skinny looking kid.
Yackety yack
Lately, (since he’s been eating better) he has just lit up. He talks NON STOP. He’s discovered the fascination of the high pitched sound. He tries to outdo his own squeals. It’s comical. The first several nights of trying to give him cereal, he thought the spoon was a microphone. Rice and oatmeal was going everywhere as he flapped his gums with the spoon still in his mouth.
I swear I’ve heard him try to sing too. It’s neat to watch and listen to him discover things about himself. I hope that never goes away.
Crazy legs
This kid isn’t happy unless his legs are moving. You’d think he was a crazed fish that just got ripped from the sea. He LOVES to kick. One leg, both legs, sitting, laying, it doesn’t matter. Now that he’s got a bit more weight and length on him he can use his jumper. Needless to say, it’s the greatest source of his entertainment. And ours.
Another thing he’s started is to forcefully rip his socks off and chew on them. Within minutes they are completely drenched with saliva. He could be laying in a pile of toys, but all he really wants are his socks. We’re thinking maybe he’s getting closer to cutting a tooth.
What’s next?
He’s getting stronger everyday. He’s able to sit up by himself for small bits at a time, and he’s dangerously close to realizing that if he scoots his knees up, he can really go places. Lord help us when that happens!
Oh, and in case you were wondering about our other kid…He and Ruthie are best pals. He talks to her, tries to pet her all the time, and she has traded my side for his.
I think that’s about the gist of it for now. I’m betting that half of you just skip right over all this babble and go straight to the pictures. I guess I’d better post some.
